Air Astana unaffected by recent European Union Air Safety Committee ban

30th of July 2009, 5:12 PM

The Carrier Air Astana certified in Kazakhstan requested to be heard by the Commission and the Air Safety Committee, and made presentations on June 30, 2009. During this presentation, the carrier presented a comprehensive series of corrective actions and a root cause analysis designed to address the safety deficiencies.

With regard to the safety situation of its fleet, all aircraft on the AOC of the carrier are registered outside Kazakhstan (Aruba). The competent authority of Aruba is responsible for the oversight of the aircraft on the fleet of Air Astana in accordance with the provisions of Annexes 1, and 8 to the Chicago Convention as well as Annex 6 for continuing airworthiness aspects.

In view of the above the Commission and the Air Safety Committee did not consider necessary to include the carrier Air Astana into Annex A (Banned List of Carriers). Air Astana was included in Annex B.
